The African American experience in Kentucky is one of hardship and endurance, strength in community, and resistance and triumph. These are the stories told in One More River to Cross, the exhibits opening in 2003 at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville. A variety of exhibit techniques will provide the visitor with an unflinching account of the life of a slave, what it means to be considered property, and the role of Africans in the settling of Kentucky and the Civil War. Object theaters, interactives, and collections of relevant artifacts will engage the visitor in the narrative of a community that won its freedom yet still struggles for equality.
