At the Estuarium, live exhibits complemented by computer and mechanical interactives and interpretive graphics pique the interest of the visitor to explore the uniquely complex and fragile ecosystem of the Albemarle-Pamlico Sounds. The exhibition consists of three major areas: Life of the Estuary, People and the Peninsula, and Making Choices. These exhibits describe the delicate balance of life in the estuary and examine the story of human habitation and the consequences of human influence in the area. The ecosystem is brought to life within the estuarium with live animal tanks, murals, shadowboxes, maps, and a wide variety of interactives.
