“For 100 years, the National Institute of Standards and Technology has helped lay the foundation for the technological innovation, economic growth, and quality of life enjoyed in the United States.” Housed in the main lobby of NIST headquarters in Gaithersberg, MD, NIST in Your Community is an exhibit that introduces visitors to the myriad of ways in which NIST affects our everyday lives. To convey the enormous breadth of NIST’s work we structured the exhibit primarily around six environmental areas: Automobile Manufacturing, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Home, Police Station, Medical Clinic, and Research Lab. The environments include examples of real technologies, science-based mechanical interactives, multi-media interactives, explanations of cutting-edge technologies, stories about individual companies, as well as historical stories
