Clinton A.M.E. Church Restoration Project

DuBOIS FREEDOM CENTER

Great Barrington, MA

“We received nine strong proposals from experienced interpretive planning and exhibit design firms around the country,” said Beth Carlson, a Clinton Church Restoration board member who chairs the group’s Programming and Interpretation Committee. “Proun went above and beyond in demonstrating how our vision for this heritage site and cultural center could be brought to life. They have significant experience interpreting African American history and we are excited to have them on board.”

Proun Design, LLC is pleased to announce that we have been selected for the DuBois Freedom Center project in Great Barrington, MA—hometown of W.E.B. Du Bois and hub of the Upper Housatonic Valley African American Heritage Trail. We are excited to join a stellar team led scholar and designer Dr. Mabel O. Wilson and African American historian and scholar Dr. Kendra Field. Also on our team are People Places and Design Research, community engagement facilitator Dina Bailey of Mountain Top Vision, LLC, writer, literary performer, and educator Regie Gibson, media developer Northern Light Productions, and Abernathy Lighting Design.

The first phases of design will explore the possibilities of transforming a historically significant New England A.M.E. Zion Church into a permanent and changing exhibit space while accommodating performances, lectures, and community functions. Exhibits will celebrate the history of the church, the African American community in the Berkshires, and civil rights pioneer W.E.B. Du Bois.
